The Tahoe Area Group in conjunction with the Sierra State Parks Foundation sponsored a wildflower hike in Washoe Meadows State Park on June 10th. Lisa Berry, an instructor at Lake Tahoe Community College led the hike around the undeveloped park. This winter’s huge snowpack has finally started melting and although not at their peak, several varieties of flowers were blooming. About 20 people attended and hiked through forests, meadows and viewed the rare fenn (bog) located in the park. The Sierra Club, along with other local groups have been instrumental in protecting the park from being encroached upon by the adjoining golf course.
