Look below to take online action to protect Maryland's Forests, attend a hearing to stop a proposed gas pipeline, go to a water forum and build community ties, get outside to learn and gather hope. Join in with us to defend the planet - there is a lot to do!
Tell the General Assembly to Protect Maryland Forests!
Contact your state legislators today and tell them how important forests are to our environment, economy, and way of life. Urge them to strengthen the Forest Conservation Act to protect our most valuable forests when they return to Annapolis in January. Send your legislator a message now!
Sierra Club Announces Priority Bills for 2018 MD General Assembly
The Chapter Executive Committee is excited to announce three priorities for the upcoming 2018 session of the Maryland General Assembly. They are:
- Strengthen the Forest Conservation Act to protect Maryland's disappearing forests (see action alert above);
- Enact a statewide ban on styrofoam products to rid the environment of this pernicious pollutant; and
- Improve the Public Service Commission's process regarding new gas infrastructure to ensure more informed review.
Detailed information about these priorities will be posted soon on our website. We hope you will join us in fighting for these issues.
Maryland Pledges to Reduce Pollution From Transportation Fuels
On November 18, eight Northeastern states and jurisdictions, including Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, D.C., announced their plans to share approaches and develop regional policies to enable greater access to clean mobility opportunities, reducing carbon pollution from transportation fuels, creating jobs, and growing their economies.
Maryland has been a part of the regional Transportation and Climate Initiative since its formation, and has renewed its commitment to finding innovative solutions to our climate crisis.
