Help STOP Dominion Energy's compressor station proposed for Charles County, MD, part of Dominion's Eastern Market Access Project, to Export Gas to Japan & India
The MD Department of the Environment (MDE) is seeking public comments on whether or not to grant an Air Quality Permit to Dominion Energy for a proposed compressor station to bring gas from Virginia to Cove Point LNG Terminal to be shipped overseas.
Please help! Ask MDE to deny this air quality permit This fragile, flood prone, rural wetland zoned "Agricultural Conservation, Resource Protection" area is directly adjacent to National Piscataway Park which protects Mount Vernon's historic viewshed. Read more and submit comments to MDE here The potential harm to nearby residents' health and safety have not been evaluated. Emissions from gas compressor stations are known to adversely affect air quality and increase rates of respiratory illnesses like asthma. Montgomery County Council Puts Pause on Stormwater Overhaul in Pursuit of More Transparency and Oversight

Sierra Club and our coalition partners in the Stormwater Partners Network approached the Council with our concerns and successfully convinced them to continue funding existing projects! Summer Smog is Starting Early
After a grueling cold winter, we are seeing the fruits of our patience with temperatures above 60 and our old friend, the sun. However, the warm weather already comes with some bad news--ozone alert days. In the first 3 weeks of May, we saw three code orange alert days warning us that we're inhaling dangerous amounts of smog while we enjoy the first days of summer weather. Read more here. Enjoy the Outdoors this Spring, but Protect yourself from Lyme Disease!
Unfortunately, now that warm weather is here, we are also in the season where deer tick season is the worst. This period of time usually extends until mid-July. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the outdoors. Some parks are controlling deer overpopulation and so are safer for you to enjoy. Read more here
