Anne Arundel Bans Polystyrene Foam
Congratulations to Anne Arundel Sierra Club and allies for a foam ban victory ! The Anne Arundel County Council voted to ban polystyrene plastic foam containers, giving restaurants until January 1, 2020 to use their supply before switching to an alternative!
Community Shared a Farm Tour and Cookout at Leaning Pine Farm
On June 6, 2018, 22 members and friends of the Sierra Club community came together for a tour and cookout at Leaning Pine Farm in Mt. Savage, MD, ancestral Shawnee land. Leaning Pine Farmers are leading the way in advocating for a more sustainable food system that is climate change resilient, while also learning the indigenous history of the land. Can We Reduce Storm Damage Caused by Falling Trees? Invasive Weeds Factor
During storms with high winds, falling trees can be a big hazard. One factor that's very important in tree wind resistance is at least partially within our control - tree health. Unhealthy trees have been shown to be more susceptible to falling during periods of high wind than healthy trees. Invasive species, specifically vines such as English Ivy, Japanese honeysuckle, and asiatic bittersweet have proven to be extremely detrimental to tree health. Read more here
