Prince George's Sierra Club awards Environment Director, Adam C. Ortiz for Outstanding Leadership
Adam C. Ortiz, Director of the Department of the Environment and former Mayor of Edmonston, is the winner of the Prince George's Sierra Club's annual Environmental Service Award.
"Under his leadership... the county has made major progress in reducing stormwater runoff through the Clean Water Partnership and in moving the department and the County closer to a Zero Waste policy in principle and on the ground," said Prince George's Group Chair Martha Ainsworth in presenting the award.

How NASA and the Space Race Inspired the Environmental Movement
This past week marked a momentous anniversary in human history.
In 1969 Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins lifted off from Cape Canaveral and Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon, the culmination of more than a decade's worth of work in science, engineering and human achievement.
The images that the astronauts of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs beamed down from space captivated all of humanity, capturing the fragility of our planet and inspiring a generation to act in defense of the environment.
