Thanks to everyone who came out to our WCD victory celebratory kayaking trip on Saturday, July 22, with a special thank you to Jim Long and Bonnie Bick for teaching us so much about the Mattawoman. The Mattawoman Creek is an invaluable example of what a restored Chesapeake Bay would look like. None of this would have been possible without the support of elected officials, so keep working hard to elect environmental champions!

Support the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative in Maryland!
Call on Sec Grumbles (3).png

The moment has come for Maryland and 8 other Northeast states to decide whether they will rise to the challenge of climate change, or simply maintain the status quo, with key decisions on the future of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) coming any day now. We need to drive as many calls as possible to MDE Secretary Ben Grumbles urging them to push for the strongest possible update to RGGI -- not the weakest.

Dial 512-402-8385 to reach Grumbles' office at MDE.

Don't Roll Back Our Clean Water Protections
Beyond%20Coal%20logo_onwhite.jpeg

In 2015, the Obama administration crafted new guidelines to prevent the pollution of waterways from coal-fired power plants. The Trump Administration's EPA has put a hold on these guidelines, meaning they do not have to be enforced. This is a problem for both public and environmental health. MDE has released drafts of updated permits for three power plants in Maryland! Follow this link to read more about these permits on our blog!

Hike to the Chalk Point

Coal-Fired Power Plant

Join us on August 13th to view the Chalk Point Generating Station! We will hike through Maxwell Hall Park and end at a waterfront vista of the power plant. During the hike we will learn about the surrounding ecosystem and how it is affected by the toxic pollutants being released into the water. At the outing we will also provide more information about how you can advocate for the Maryland Department of the Environment to stop this harmful dump of pollutants.
