Put MD on the Path to 100% Clean Energy
At this critical moment, we need to dramatically expand clean energy and turn away from the fossil fuels which are devastating our planet. We are supporting the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA), with strengthening amendments. We also are supporting a companion bill to increase investment in clean energy through long-term contracts (LTC) for electricity. Tell your legislators to support achieving 100% Clean Energy!
Webinar: Safeguard Maryland’s Waterways From Proposed New Fracked Gas Pipelines
Join our Beyond Gas Team for a webinar on 2/4 to learn about legislation to require the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to better protect our water resources by fully utilizing its authority under the federal Clean Water Act to conduct independent reviews of new, proposed interstate gas pipelines. RSVP Here and then send your legislator a message here!
Protect Our Air And Climate From Expanded, Polluting Highways
Maryland must embark on creating a 21st century, climate-friendly, clean transportation sector. The Governor's expensive proposal to widen the Capital Beltway, I-270, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway is antithetical to doing this. Write your legislators in support of this priority bill!
Update on Deer Management Plan
Until the 1950’s and 60’s, spotting a White-tailed Deer in Maryland was an exciting and rare experience. Deer populations were dangerously low due to human expansion and overhunting, as well as the natural predation of coyotes and wolves. As a result, hunting regulations were implemented and deer were reintroduced to the area, and the population grew exponentially. But in recent years, the disappearance of local predators and the restrictions on hunting have caused deer populations to explode, leading to a wide array of social and environmental issues including but not limited to: garden and crop destruction, automobile accidents, habitat destruction due to overgrazing, runoff into streams and the bay, and an increase in deer tick populations.
