Please join us in welcoming Lesley Paredes Hernandez, our new Communications Associate for the Sierra Club Maryland Chapter!
She is from Queens, New York, and recently relocated to Maryland. She previously worked in a communications position doing work in multiple states along the East Coast.
As Communications Associate, Lesley provides support for both the internal and external communications of the Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club and oversees the chapter’s website, social media accounts, and newsletters.
When not working, Lesley enjoys cooking, taking photos, watching the newest movies and tv series, exploring local trails, and spending time with family and friends. She is a native speaker of Spanish and is currently trying to learn a new language!
Regarding her passion for working at Sierra Club, she explains, "I got my love and appreciation for nature from my parents. My fondest memories as a child were when my parents would take us to state parks in New York. Our planet is beautiful and we need to do everything we can to protect it. I am passionate about combating climate change, protecting endangered species, clean energy, combating deforestation and reducing pollution."
When asked if there is anything else she'd like to share, she says, "I am first generation. My parents came to this country from Mexico to build a better life for themselves and their children. I grew up in New York City and attended college in Ithaca, NY, an area known for its beautiful waterfalls and gorges. I love trying new foods and learning about different cultures!"
