The Sierra Club is saddened by the passing today of Speaker Michael Busch of the Maryland House of Delegates after battling an illness in the final weeks of the 2019 legislative session. Speaker Busch was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1986, and served as Speaker since 2003.
In response, Sierra Club Maryland Chapter Director, Josh Tulkin, released the following statement:
"Maryland lost a historic leader today, and we extend our condolences to the Busch family. Speaker Busch was a stalwart in the General Assembly, working for decades to protect Maryland's environment. Thanks to his commitment and years of effort, Marylanders have a healthier Chesapeake Bay, cleaner air to breathe, and beautiful natural places to enjoy. He will be deeply missed."
