In the beginning of February, the Maryland House and Senate voted to put the Clean Energy Jobs Act into law (again),
This bill, passed in 2016, ensures that Maryland gets 25% of its electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar by 2020 -- a trajectory that science tells us is needed to avoid the worst of dangerous climate disruption. Expanding wind and solar in the state and region will not only help reduce air pollution and protect the climate, it will also support new high-paying clean energy jobs.
Unfortunately, after the last legislative session Governor Hogan vetoed the bill. Earlier this month The Clean Energy Jobs Act ensures that Maryland gets 25% of its electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar by 2020 -- a trajectory that science tells us is needed to avoid the worst of dangerous climate disruption. Expanding wind and solar in the state and region will not only help reduce air pollution and protect the climate, it will also support new high-paying clean energy jobs.
This is one of the first renewableenergy-focused legislative actions by a state, in the face of the Trump administration actively undoing vital environmental safeguards.
