Welcome to our New Conservation Organizer Jesse Wise!
Jesse grew up in the small town of Waynesburg, located in western Pennsylvania. Her childhood was filled with singing, camping, canoeing, and nature exploring. These activities cultivated her love of the environment, which led to her ongoing pursuit of understanding the complex workings of the environment and protecting our natural resources through education and outreach to others. To that end, Jesse spent much of the past 13 years studying a variety of undergraduate and graduate environmental courses; working at a wide array of contractual and full-time environmental positions, mostly for state agencies; and attending environmental conferences and trainings as time allowed.
Jesse obtained an A.A.S. Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology from Garrett College, a B.S. Forest Resources Management from West Virginia University, and, most recently, an M. Ed. Environmental Education and M.S. Parks and Recreation Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. She has worked in the states of PA, MD, WV, and NC in multiple capacities, including Technician (Nature Tourism, Black Bear Survey, Nutrient Management/Chesapeake Bay, GIS, Forest Insect Pest, Biological Field-Windmill Site Surveys), Forester (Urban, Logging, Landscape Watershed), PA Woodmobile Coordinator, and Teacher (High School Science and Substitute).
Jesse is extremely excited to begin working as the Western Maryland Conservation Coordinator. Not only is she deeply honored to have the chance to carry out the work that John Muir began over 100 years ago, she is also very grateful to have a position that allows, no expects, her to spend her time protecting the environment through educating and organizing communities; all endeavors that she is passionate about!
Moreover, Jesse is very eager to meet and learn from all of you as she begins her journey with the Sierra Club.
