For the past few years, Sierra Club Maryland has worked to implement new pollution rules for manure running off of factory farms and into our water. Gov. O'Malley has finally announced the new rules, but Gov.-Elect Hogan has stated he will do all he can to undo them come January.
With the farm lobby fighting our efforts to reduce the amount of manure poisoning our waterways, Sierra Club needs to step up our game. Now!
The Chapter is exploring the re-establishment of a Food & Agriculture Committee to guide and lift up this critical work. Think: shifting the burden of poultry feces cleanup from taxpayers to polluters, curbing toxics in our food and water, calling out other abuses of unsustainable industrial farming, and exploring and lifting up viable alternatives. We need folks who want to learn, dialogue, and make change!
