Breaking: MD Air Worst in the East for Smog!

Take action to clean up Maryland's dirty coal plant pollution today!

According to a new report by the American Lung Association (ALA), the DC-Baltimore region has the worst smog pollution in the East!¹

Coal-fired power plants like Crane and Wagner, just outside of Baltimore, dump dangerous amounts of pollutants into the air, creating smog. This toxic pollution contributes to sky-high asthma rates that rank the city among the highest in the nation for childhood asthma.²

The good news is that the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) has drafted strong, health-protecting standards to limit pollution from these plants. However the plant owners are doing everything in their power to weaken the proposed health standards so they don't have to spend money cleaning up their own pollution.  

Don't let coal plant owners undermine public health protections -- send a message to MDE Secretary Bob Summers and Governor O'Malley, urging them to issue strong public health protections to clean up the Crane and Wagner coal plants!

Combined, the Crane and Wagner plants contribute to 81 deaths a year.³  We need to move quickly to ensure MDE doesn't favor dirty coal over the health of our communities.

You can help make sure Maryland continues to be a leader for clean energy and Governor O'Malley and the MDE protect our health from dirty fossil fuel pollution. 

Tell MDE and Governor O'Malley today that they must move forward to set the strongest standards possible.
