Long-time Sierra Club supporter and “green” hardware store K&B True Value, on Forest Drive in Annapolis, will once again mark Earth Day with special events, giveaways and sales.
The store is prime sponsor of the Club’s April 19 Run and Walk fundraiser at Quiet Waters Park; the following weekend, April 26-27, it will celebrate Earth Day by giving away free four-packs of 4” annuals as well as offering $1 refills on Sun & Earth Laundry detergent.
K&B True Value, which just celebrated their fortieth anniversary in April, has long championed environmentally-sustainable items to reduce the carbon footprint of its own operations and its customers. Products such as organic gardening and cleaning solutions, beneficial insects packages, and lawn fertilizers that are bay-friendly are prominently featured throughout the store.
The building, itself, utilizes rooftop solar panels that provide more than 15 percent of its annual electricity needs and every year the retailer sponsors a Christmas incandescent/LED light exchange, which reduces the decorative lighting power requirements by over 90 percent.
K&B True Value also supports several local environmental causes, such as the Oyster Recovery Project.
“As a former environmental attorney, I am very aware of the challenges facing our bay and I take them very seriously,” says owner Jared Littmann. “I want to disprove the notion that business and environmental stewardship are incompatible. In fact, I am out to prove that being environmentally responsible is actually good for businesses!”
K&B True Value is family-owned, located at 912 Forest Drive (near the intersection with Bay Ridge Drive) in Annapolis, and can be reached at 410-268-3939. Ken and Bobbie Niefeld founded K&B True Value in 1974. Marlene Niefeld, their daughter, and Jared Littmann, her husband, now co-own the business.
