Phosphorus is a dangerous water pollutant that runs off cultivated fields into our streams and rivers, and ultimately into the Chesapeake Bay. The primary source of phosphorus is manure, and controlling over-fertilization of farmland is the best way to reduce phophorus pollution.
Maryland has formulated the Phophorus Management Tool (PMT), based on ten years of scientific research, and is ready to implement it. Lobbyists for the agriculture industry are demanding economic studies that would delay implementation, allowing continuing phosphorus pollution of our waterways, and derailing our established regulatory process.
Tell your state Senator and Delegates to oppose efforts to delay implementation of the PMT. Read more at Sustainable Agriculture.
