Tons of highly radioactive spent nuclear fuel is stored at commercial reactors around the country, including at the Calvert Cliffs reactor site in southern Maryland, and at the Peach Bottom reactors, just 36 miles from downtown Baltimore. With no permanent storage site, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing to stockpiling the waste in "interim" sites around the country. Now is the time to speak out against transportating dangerous waste around the country, and to store it more safely at reactor sites.
Two public meetings will be held at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) headquarters on the afternoons of October 1st and November 14th. An informational open house starts at 1:00 p.m. each day, with the meeting to gather comments starting at 2:00. The NRC headquarters is located at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD, 20852. This is about 1/4 mile south of the intersection with Old Georgetown Road, and just across Marinelli Rd. from the White Flint metro station (Red line).
