You have an important opportunity to speak for protection of wolves on Monday, September 30 in Washington, DC. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed to remove the gray wolf (Canis lupus) from the list of threatened and endangered species. If the federal government goes ahead with this plan, wolf management will be turned over to the states. This has already happened in the Northern Rockies and it’s been a disaster – over 1,700 wolves have been ruthlessly hunted down and killed in just the last two years. If wolves are stripped of their protections, we could see this happen in parts of the United States where their comeback is still in its early, fragile stages. Sierra Club is working with the Defenders of Wildlife on this important campaign.
Please plan to attend the rally starting at 4 p.m. in the park across C street from the Dept. of the Interior building, where you can learn more about this issue. Following the rally, the public hearing starts at 6 p.m. in the Dept. of the Interior auditorium. This is one of only three public hearings across the United States, and it is critical to communicate our support for wolves. The hearing site is only a few blocks from the Federal Triangle, Foggy Bottom, and Farragut metro stations.
Don’t let the Obama administration abandon wolves!
