Beyond Coal Event - Sunday, October 13 - Happened!

Did you know that Baltimore has the highest per capita air pollution-related death rate in the nation? The Sierra Club Maryland Chapter had a great event on Sunday, October 13th - a short (1.5 mile) nature hike and rally about the Herbert A. Wagner Coal Plant – a culprit in Baltimore’s high air pollution death rate.

On the naturalist-led hike, we saw and learned about the priceless natural features of this park on the shore of the Chesapeake.

We got a good view of the nearby Herbert A. Wagner Coal Plant. We learned about its role in producing much of the toxic pollution affecting Baltimore and its role in global climate change, while making a meager contribution to the electric grid. We wrote to Governor O'Malley about this plant.

We meet and greeted fellow activists, while enjoying snacks and beverages
