The Maryland Sierra Club Chapter and local Groups are seeking candidates for their Executive Committees in this fall's Club election!
Now, more than ever, we need your talents to help the Sierra Club protect Maryland's environment for future generations. Elected Executive Committees of volunteer members run the club at all levels, setting environmental priorities; organizing education programs, hikes, and events; recruiting and communicating with activists; raising money; managing the staff and budget; and endorsing pro-environment candidates.
Find out more about the work of the Executive Committees, how to nominate someone, and other Club leadership opportunities here. The deadline for ExCom nominations is September 30, 2017.

Tell Governor Hogan: We want coal-free water in Maryland
Right now, there are three coal plants in Maryland operating with expired and outdated water pollution permits.
These coal plants -- Chalk Point, Dickerson, and Morgantown -- are dumping toxic pollutants such as arsenic and selenium into the Chesapeake Bay, as well as the Patuxent and Potomac Rivers.
These toxic chemicals can degrade our drinking water and make it unsafe to eat fish and crabs.
Please take one minute right now to tell Governor Hogan to stop toxic coal waste from polluting our water

Hike to Chalk Point
On Sunday, August 13th we hosted a hike in Maxwell Hall Park to see the Chalk Point coal-burning power plant and talk about upcoming opportunities for action to clean up its pollution. Read about coal free water in Maryland.
Deer Management, Ticks, & Lyme Disease
Protect yourself from ticks while enjoying your time outside and learn about the connection with deer overpopulation. Take a look at our brochure created by our summer stewardship outings interns and share it with friends and family.
Get outdoors with us! The Natural Places Committee is always looking for volunteers to go outdoors for hands-on invasive plant removals, in particular Japanese Barberry and Bush Honeysuckle, which increase the risk of Lyme disease by a factor of 10x. (Learn more invasive species corner) Find a location near you. We always need volunteers!
