Improving Water Quality in Lake County Lakes

Improving our Waterways

Sunday Speaker Series
October 20: Improving Water Quality in Lake County Lakes

There’s no mystery behind Lake County’s name. In addition to the mighty Lake Michigan—the fifth largest freshwater lake in the world—on our eastern border, we have 170 lakes and rivers, 400 miles of streams, and thousands of acres of wetlands. In fact, ours is the only county in Illinois that has more water area than land area.

Protecting the quality of these waters is a priority for the Lake County government.

Water quality specialists from the Lake County Health Department will join us on October 20 to talk about a decades-long project to control invasive carp in our waterways. They also will touch on their work monitoring vector-borne diseases and reducing nutrient enrichment in impaired lakes.

Register now to join us on October 20.

The presentation on Lake County lakes, streams, and wetlands is another in a series of family-friendly nature and environmental stewardship talks sponsored by the Woods & Wetlands Group.

Programs are held at 7 p.m. on the second or third Sunday of each month. They are free and open to the public. Advance registration is required for Zoom login instructions.
