Who we are
The Woods & Wetlands Group of the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter is one of 14 groups working on environmental issues at the grassroots level across Illinois.
The Woods & Wetlands Group has 2,800+ members who come from all over Lake County, plus Glencoe, Glenview, and Northbrook in northern Cook County.
Today, members of the Woods & Wetlands Group are working on conservation campaigns to protect our air, water, and open spaces, and promote sustainable energy and transportation. We are working to elect environmental champions. And we are enjoying nature outings.
The Sierra Club — founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892 — is now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. It has 3 million members and supporters. Its guiding principle: Explore, enjoy, and protect the planet.
Let's explore, enjoy, and protect the people, plants, and animals of the northeast corner of Illinois ... together.
