Here in Lake County, we are blessed with arguably the best and most abundant source of fresh water on the planet. However, many of us may not realize—or fully appreciate—how water is pumped from Lake Michigan or what happens to it before it arrives at our homes.
To get a better understanding of our precious water resources, it make sense to start at the beginning. Therefore, the Woods & Wetlands Group is planning a field trip to the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency pumping station in Lake Bluff.
During the tour, we will learn how the pumping station provides our homes with safe, clear, fresh water. We will hear about flocculation, ozonation, activated carbon filtration, ultraviolet light exposure, and chlorination. And we will see firsthand just what happens to our water before we turn on the tap and fill a glass with sparkling drinking water.
The tour will take place on Saturday, May 6th. We’ll provide details, including the tour date and registration information, in a future post.
