Sunday Speaker Series
July 10: Fighting Climate Change From Home
Climate change is an irrevocable fact—and human activities claim major responsibility for global events, according to the Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC).
Since rigorous data collection began in 1951, the evidence for climate change has become clear. The effects are evident with rising sea levels, diminished snowpack, and increased weather-related disasters. Changes in climate affect agriculture. The frequency and size of wildfires in the US and Canada as well as the increase of droughts and floods in Europe add to the crisis. Warming oceans and changes in salinity and pH further add to the disaster the Earth is facing.
On Sunday, July 10, Jay Futterman, our self-avowed “energy nerd,” will lead us on a journey through his house, room by room. He will offer advice on ways to conserve energy in your own home, reduce your household’s carbon emissions and save money.
Jay has been a spokesman for energy conservation from electric vehicles to solar energy power.
This presentation is another in a series of family-friendly nature and environmental stewardship talks sponsored by the Woods & Wetlands Group. The programs are held at 7 p.m. on the second Sunday of every month. Programs are free and open to the public. Advance registration is required to get the login instructions.
