Indiana Steps Up in EV Way

Nowadays there is plenty to be upset or worried about in our world. But sometimes good news comes from the most unexpected places—like Indiana.

In 2021, the Hoosier state enacted a bill to create the Electric Vehicle Commission. It will explore how Indiana's automakers and its workforce can adapt to the evolving electric vehicle (EV) market.

And who would have expected pickup trucks to be one of the hottest segments of the EV market? Ford recently announced it is nearly doubling production of its electric F-150 pickup after online reservations filled. Chevy just unveiled the electric Silverado pickup.  Read a nice summary here.

Indiana, which is one of the biggest coal-burning states in the country, also will become home to the largest solar farm in the country. Now under construction in northwest Indiana, the Mammoth Solar project will cover over 13,000 acres.

As aging coal plants are being retired, solar is the cheapest way to replace that electricity. Plain economics. Of course, there are the side benefits of cleaner air, a more habitable planet and stable lease revenues for farmers.

The forces behind the transition to cleaner energy and transportation are coming from different directions. It's not just us tree huggers: It can be pure economics or the fact that  electrified versions of things are just plain better than the fossil fuel versions.
