With the air temperature at -4 degrees and the wind chill at -24, outings leader, Virginia Woulfe-Beile, with council from founding member and veteran outings leader, Rich Keating, decided that the hike be canceled due to safety concerns. This did not dampen the spirits of the would be hikers who took the opportunity to linger over the hearty pre-hike breakfast and mimosas provided by the Beile's in their Godfrey home.
As it turns out there were a few brave souls who kept the New Year Hike tradition alive by venturing out on their own in the bone chilling cold! Happy New Year all, let's resolve to explore, enjoy and protect our planet!
