Hiking Season is Here

As a special request from many of our members, the Outings team is putting together a collection of nearby and very easy hikes.   They will also be very informative, highly interesting, and of course, you'll be with an awesome group of fellow hikers!  We are sharing the tentative schedule so you can Save the Date, and have something to look forward to:

May 30     Chouteau Island (see below for more details)
July 12     Watershed
Aug 15     Cahokia Mounds
Sep 12     Short McCully Hike
Oct 3         Prairie
Dec 5        Riverlands Audubon

Chouteau Island
Saturday, May 30, 2015  at 10:00am.  To start out the 2015 Outings season, the Piasa Palisades group will explore the trail near the old Chain of Rocks bridge on Chouteau Island.  There are nice, very picturesque views of the Bridge and the trail leads to the actual Chain of Rocks Dam, a very exciting part of the river.  While this area can be in need of a cleanup, we don't have the facilities at this time, though many may feel like bringing a bag to pick up some trash, so please do so if you wish.   Meet at the Chain of Rocks parking lot, which is just before the old bridge.  Wear weather appropriate clothing and bring water and pack a lunch if you would like.  Be especially prepared for the likelihood of mud if it has been rainy.  Contact Carol Klinger.
