Interested in joining our Executive Committee (ExCom)? We're always looking for qualified folks who want to help advance the Idaho Chapter's mission, vision, and values to run for a seat on the board during our yearly elections. Read more about becoming an ExCom member below.

ExCom Member Qualifications & Responsibilities

The Executive Committee ensures that the activities and services provided for the benefit of the members by the Idaho Chapter comply and are consistent with the Chapter's Bylaws and any Chapter Standing Rules, policies, and directives of the Board or its designees, the Bylaws and Standing Rules of the Club, and applicable law. 
Executive Committee members help set the strategic direction for the Chapter, oversee the finances, and ensure that the Chapter remains in compliance. 

To join the Committee, you must be a member of Idaho Chapter of the Sierra Club and live within the boundaries of the Chapter. You must also be prepared to:

  • Exercise effective governance and fiduciary oversight
  • Determine and support local club positions on critical environment issues
  • Monitor and support the healthy functioning of the Idaho Chapter
  • Foster working relationships with other community leaders and organizations
  • Attend regular meetings
  • Help with fundraising tasks, such as thanking donors or setting up meetings with prospects
  • Advance the chapter’s mission and equity values

Structure

  • Two-year staggered terms
  • Officer Positions: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer
  • Opportunities to take on other roles, such as: Outings Chair, Political Lead, Conservation Lead & more!
  • One member is elected by the board to serve as delegate to the Council of Club Leaders

Time Commitment

  • Executive Committee meets four times a year, with dates and times decided at the start of each year
  • Three to four hours quarterly for meetings
  • One to two hours per month for email correspondence and membership engagement
  • Attend Sierra Club events and volunteer opportunities when you’re able
