OUTdoors Idaho is Sierra Club Idaho's queer-only Outings group that aims to cultivate a safe and welcoming space and provide resources to make it possible for the LGBTQ+ community to come together in nature to explore and enjoy Idaho’s environment. Queer people in Idaho love and find comfort in nature, but are often unable to access it, or feel uncomfortable and unsafe doing so due to the state's anti-LGBT political environment. Openly queer adventurers have often faced harassment and threats to their safety in Idaho’s natural spaces.
Shared identity groups can have huge benefits on a person’s wellbeing, and can help ease feelings of isolation that many queer folks face. Our vision is that OUTdoors Idaho can create a sense of connectedness, belonging, and inclusion in each new Idaho outdoor space we explore. The outdoors are for everyone. Past Outings for the program include a hike near Stack Rock, a Greenbelt bike ride to Lucky Peak, and a snowshoe trip near Idaho City!
