THE PROBLEM  Most people in our country have safe, reliable, and affordable water services, but there are millions of people who do not. Some places have never had adequate water and wastewater infrastructure, while other places struggle with aging systems, unaffordable rates, and poor water quality.

THE SOLUTION  The Water Affordability subcommittee works on a critical issue that needs action at every level of government. Aging infrastructure, rising costs, increasing economic segmentation, and toxins in the drinking water have adversely affected water utilities and low-income customers. Water affordability policies, regulations, and infrastructure funding will ensure that all people have an equitable share of access to safe drinking water while protecting the environment.

OUR VISION  Having an equitable water future means providing all people in all places with access to clean, safe water at a price they can afford. Water affordability is achievable through appropriate rates for low-income citizens, through the regulation of safe water quality standards, and through adequate infrastructure funding for drinking water treatment and distribution, as well as sewage treatment.

OUR MISSION  We work to assure that voices of the people who find their water to be unaffordable or unavailable are heard. We work with other organizations and groups who share compatible visions to intentionally act in solidarity and mutuality to support one another.
