Meet the Fossil-Free Finance Team

Ben Cushing

Ben is responsible for the overall vision, planning, and management of the campaign and its private and public sector advocacy positions. He manages the campaign staff, gives direction to team members across departments, and ensures ongoing collaboration with other Sierra Club campaigns, state/local chapters, Sierra Club Foundation staff, volunteers, partner groups, and a wide range of allies. Ben and his staff engage directly with executives and decision-makers in the public and private sectors to advance the campaign’s priorities and to help inform coalition strategies. Ben has been leading the Sierra Club’s financial sector advocacy since 2017, has served on the steering committee of the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition for the past five years, and has been working on climate campaigns for over a decade. He graduated from Carleton College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and political economy. He is based in Washington, DC. Follow Ben on Twitter at @bmcushing.


Jessye Waxman

Jessye Waxman
Campaign Advisor

Jessye helps lead the planning and execution of the campaign, with a particular focus on analyzing and articulating best practices for financial institutions and regulators. Prior to the Sierra Club, she served in staff and/or advisory roles for Green Century Capital Management, Majority Action, and Principles for Responsible Investment. She is experienced in both shareholder advocacy and corporate campaigning, has helped secure environmental commitments from major corporations, and has mobilized grassroots activists and investors to advance environmental and climate protections. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in international political economy and development at Fordham University, and is a graduate of Duke University, where she received her bachelor’s in environmental science and policy, focused on environmental security. Allie Lindstrom

Senior Campaign Strategist

Allie serves as a central coordinator for the campaign, responsible for developing and implementing strategies and tactics, with a particular focus on collaboration with state/local chapters and partner groups to move public pensions and financial officers to take strong action climate actions. Prior to the Sierra Club, she worked at Future Coalition, where she helped build the Youth Climate Finance Alliance, which trained and supported a diverse set of youth organizers in climate finance campaigning. She is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned a bachelor's degree in environmental policy, with an emphasis on university divestment campaigning. She is based in Ann Arbor, MI.


Gabe Gonzalez

Senior Finance Analyst

Mahima provides strategic research and financial analysis to help advance the campaign’s goals. Prior to the Sierra Club, she worked for nearly seven years as a fixed income and equity investment analyst for Vanguard, and previously as a banker for Bank of America. She graduated with a master’s degree in finance and responsible investment from the Sustainability Management School, Switzerland, with a focus on ESG factors and their role in shaping the future of the finance industry. She received her bachelor’s degree from Gujarat University. She is based in Philadelphia, PA.


Ginny Cleaveland

Ginny supports the campaign’s strategic communications and leads media relations with outlets across the country and around the world. Prior to the Sierra Club, she worked as a media director at Stand.earth and in support of local environmental organizations focused on clean energy, clean water, and land conservation in the Pacific Northwest, and previously worked as a journalist and editor. She is a graduate of Western Washington University, where she received her master’s in environmental education, and the University of Montana, where she received her bachelor’s in journalism. Hillary Larson
Senior Digital Strategist

Hillary supports the campaign’s strategic digital strategy plans for mass audiences to achieve campaign goals, iterate and test digital tactics, shift public narratives, and highlight inspiring stories. She works closely with the Fossil-Free Finance, as well as the Beyond Dirty Fuels and Clean Transportation campaigns, to share and track relevant content across channels in close coordination with communications, social, and creative colleagues. Hillary has previously worked on the Sierra Club’s digital narrative and innovations teams after serving as Communications Coordinator for the Colorado Chapter. Prior to the Sierra Club, she was a community organizer and journalist. She is based in San Juan, PR.
