Jacksonville Program, Monday, November 19, 7:00 p.m.: Red Tide and Green Slime: Causes and Curest
Cris Costello, staff member Florida Sierra Club will speak to us on our current water crisis.
Floridians in Northeast Florida are no strangers to cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and neither is anyone in Florida these days - green slime is haunting nearly every corner of the state.  Not so well-known around here is the red tide that is seemingly ever-present along the gulf coast, but this fall it has popped up on the Atlantic coast too.
Confused about the "cause" or "what is feeding it"?  Have you heard it said that red tide is "naturally occurring"?  Does that mean humans have nothing to do with it?  We will talk about the simple reasons we are in this algae crisis and the relatively simple (but not easy) way to get out of it.
It's your water, and it is time to fight for it like your life depends upon it -- because it does!
The meeting will be held at UNF at the Adam W Herbert University Center, Rm 1088, 12000 Alumni Dr, Jacksonville.
Free and open to the public. For more information please contact Janet Larson 904-710-3800.
