The goal of SCMO is to ensure access to nature for military members, veterans, and their families. This is the local LA and Orange Counties section of the national program. We emphasize mindful and inclusive outdoor activities that connect veterans and military families to the healing power of nature.
If you are a veteran or part of a military family who is interested in the outdoors, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact morgan.goodwin@sierraclub.org for more information.
Our section has organized first aid trainings, leader trainings, mindfulness hikes, and more.
The Sierra Thrives Facilitator Training is a 4-week learning series, developed by BeWell in Nature, in partnership with Sierra Club's Military Outdoors. During the program, Outing Facilitators and nature stewardship leaders practice strategies to cultivate inclusive, emotionally safe and supportive outing experiences that enhance participant's social and emotional well-being. As a community, we practice and integrate practical knowledge and skills to create meaningful, restorative, and transformative experiences for outing participants. Every single outing participant is integral to collective nature stewardship.
