Unfortunately, Trump Won – Here’s How the Angeles Chapter is Responding

filename
This is really tough. The re-election of Donald Trump means that we will face escalating attacks on the environment, putting our work that you care so much about at risk.

Trump’s approach is to frame environmental protections and regulations as elitist tools that harm ordinary people. But we are the people, and we know that the environmental policies we have fought for genuinely improve lives and make a difference every day. By focusing on these positive impacts, we will continue to build support and make progress.

Our mission remains strong, our commitment to the planet is unshakeable, and – as the members of the Angeles Chapter – we are powerful.

The Sierra Club and the Angeles Chapter are ready. Here’s what that looks like:

  • A Trump administration threatens to roll back our hard-won national monuments, like the additional 100,000 acres the Biden admin added in the San Gabriel mountains. We will defend those monuments by organizing all the communities that benefit from these protections and telling our collective story.
  • Trump told us he will expand oil drilling on day one - directly challenging our victories to end oil drilling in LA and across the state. They may challenge these victories all the way to the supreme court, but we will act swiftly to get local agencies and communities to phase out drilling before those policies can be undone. People are already benefiting from cleaner air and we will stand with everyone’s right to be free from toxic pollution.
  • We have installed gigawatts of solar, gotten nearly 2 million EVs on the road, and we’re transitioning away from gas and fossil fuels in our power grid, our homes and industries - creating great jobs and a strong economy. And Trump hates it because it’s working. We’ll accelerate the clean energy transition by pushing for more responsibly sited clean energy. Working with new partners like labor unions, solar installers, electric bus manufacturers and more, we’ll fight for our sustainable future by building it right here.
This is your Sierra Club. I invite you to join us on a hike, join us at a meeting, join us in building the powerful Club that will take on Trump.

One of the most impactful steps you can take right now is to become a monthly donor to the Angeles Chapter. You can give any amount, and please know that by helping us to anticipate your monthly gifts, we can be even more productive.

We’re thinking about Rebecca Solnit's Hope in the Dark - how the future is Dark, not because it is dismal, but because it is unknown - and we have to bring the light of past victories, grassroots victors, hard earned to it.

Together, our commitment to the planet is unshakable.

P.S. The Sierra Club national org did a livestream the day after the election which was fantastic. Check it out if you haven't:
