Dodger Stadium Rally and Press Conference

Please join us on Sunday September 22nd at Dodgers Stadium! Environmental advocates will deliver an updated petition demanding the Los Angeles Dodgers cut ties to Big Oil by immediately ending the team's sponsorship deal with oil giant Phillips 66, owner of the 76 gas-station brand whose logo and ads are plastered across Dodger Stadium.

The sponsorship deal is deceptive and dangerous greenwashing in a time of climate crisis. Campaign organizers will hit "send" to digitally deliver the petition, which has quickly soared to over 11,000 signatures, to billionaire Dodger owner and chairman Mark Walter and co-owners including Magic Johnson and Billie Jean King.

"Walter publicly bills himself as a conservationist and donates with his wife to protect endangered species and wild habitats," said campaign lead Zan Dubin. "But he is simultaneously accepting millions from the industry destroying the things he loves and working to convince Dodger fans that oil and gas are as wholesome and friendly as their beloved home team. This has to stop."

Campaigners have worked with MoveOn.org and campaign sponsor, Sierra Club Angeles Chapter, to collect signatures to the petition's Open Letter, delivered to Walter and other Dodger management on July 23, 2024, with no response.

Signatories include environmental leaders Bill McKibben, Harvard University professor Naomi Oreskes and Emmy Award-winning actor Kyra Sedgwick; "Don't Look Up" director Adam McKay's Yellow Dot production studio; and Maya Williams, a plaintiff among 18 youths suing the EPA over climate change (Genesis B. v. EPA).

"Imagine if the Dodgers decided to shill for gun makers or Big Tobacco by hoisting an assault rifle or cigarette company logo above the scoreboard," said campaign supporter Paul Scott. "Well, the data show that there have recently been more annual deaths from air pollution than from gun violence. Time for the Dodgers to take the lead and leave fossil fuel ads behind. They must set a humane example."
