The Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit (LA ART) project, also known as the Dodger Stadium Gondola or The McCourt Gondola, continues to be a viable project; however, multiple entities must approve the project in order for it to come to fruition. This is useful news as the project continues to face opposition from community members and organizations due to the lack of community input and transparency throughout the planning process and its harmful environmental impact on the area, particularly the Los Angeles State Historic Park. The public’s comments on the initial EIR (Environmental Impact Report) have been responded to by Metro and can be found here.
The next step in the process is the approval of the Final EIR, which was released on Monday, December 4, 2023 and is available on Metro’s website with hard copies available at the following Los Angeles public libraries: Central Library, Chinatown Branch Library, Cypress Park Branch Library, and Metro Headquarters, Dorothy Peyton Gray Library. The Metro Board of Directors will likely vote on the Final EIR at their January meeting, estimated to be held on Thursday, January 25th. Anyone who would like to attend the in-person meeting can call Metro or check Metro’s website closer to that date to confirm.
We strongly encourage anyone with concerns regarding the final EIR to leave comments via Metro’s website, in-person meetings, or at the final EIR vote. More detailed information can be found on how to do so on the LA ART section of Metro’s website. Should Metro certify the final EIR, it would then move onto votes for approval by LA City council, Caltrans, and the State Parks board. As well, other Metro approvals would have to occur, including real property, operations, and construction easements. If this process continues along that path, we’ll provide updates of other ways to stay involved in the opposition efforts.
