Evening Programs Schedule for September 2024

Come join us for free evening programs throughout the summer! Learn about Yosemite, the natural world, and the Sierra Club from incredible presenters. Evening programs are on Friday and Saturday evenings, from 7:30 - 9:00 pm and are always held at the YCHC, shuttle bus stop #12 in Yosemite Valley. We do not take reservations for our programs, and seating is limited to 50 people. People are seated on a first come, first served basis with doors opening at 7:15 pm. We look forward to seeing you!

 

Friday, September 6:
Leave No Trace and How to Utilize the Techniques

Presented By: Michael Elliott, Leave No Trace Master Educator/Sierra Club Member

Earn a Leave No Trace certificate tonight as Michael introduces the methods and spirit behind keeping the wilderness wild.


Saturday, September 7: 
A Valley Full of Music: Beautiful Opera arias, Musical Theater songs and duets sung in the most Beautiful place on earth!

Presented By: Joe Meyers, Krista Wigle, and Naomi Sanchez

Please join us as we sing some of the greatest hits from Opera and Broadway.


Friday, September 13: 
Poetry from Tahoe to Yosemite

Presented By: Chris Olander, Poet Laureate & ecology bio-educator

Join Chris as he recites his poetry arising from many years of living and exploring the real gold of Sierras and Yosemite with stories that brought the poems to light in his book “River Light.”


Saturday, September 14: 
Singers of the Sierra: A talk on the birds of Yosemite and what you can do to help them

Presented By: Julien Ueda, Wildlife Biologist

From the powerful Peregrine Falcon to the begging Stellar’s Jay, Yosemite National Park hosts and protects over a hundred bird species every year. Join Julien to learn about the common birds beside your tent and some of the coolest birds that call the Sierra home. Learn about some of the threats facing birds today and what you can do to help save them.

John Muir, Yosemite and the Journey to Conservation

Presented By: Mark Johnke, Volunteer in Parks, John Muir National Historic Site

This is a brief exploration of Muir's time in Yosemite and the people and experiences that helped to mold him into a leader in the conservation movement.


Saturday, September 21: 
Changing Lifeways of the Ahwahneechee

Presented By: Emily Dayhoff, Southern Sierra Miwuk Tribal Member

Meet Emily and learn about the culture of the Ahwahneechee, who called Yosemite “Home.”
