Welcome to the Sierra Club Four Lakes Group!
The Sierra Club is a national environmental group based in Oakland, CA. Founded in 1892 by John Muir and others, the Club is America’s oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization. The Sierra Club has separate but related organizations at the national, regional (mostly state) or Chapters, and, in some cases, sub-state entities or Groups which work at the most local level to achieve the mission of the Sierra Club.
The Four Lakes Group is a local, volunteer-led branch of the Sierra Club comprising nine counties in south central Wisconsin and one of six Groups in the Wisconsin Chapter. It is governed by a locally elected Executive Committee and guided by the policies of both the state Wisconsin Chapter and the national Sierra Club, but with local autonomy and resources to work on the issues that matter most to our communities.
The Four Lakes Group area includes over 5,000 members in the counties of Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Lafayette, Rock and Sauk. If you do not live in our area, see the Wisconsin Chapter website to find the Group that represents you.

What does the Four Lakes Group do?
Advocacy - The Four Lakes Group engages, empowers, and mobilizes its members and supporters on priority campaigns and issues that they care about. It is also active in local elections, since change starts at the local level and we can be a part of building a strong legislative base to protect our environment, and communities. COVID 19 Alert: Sierra Club Outings and activities including meetings have been cancelled our moved to virtual platforms until it is deemed safe for all.
In addition to our Group work, we also help sponsor and work with the Sierra Student Coalition on the UW Madison campus.
Dismantling Racism to Achieve Social, Environmental and Climate Justice - The Sierra Club has started a deliberate journey to ensure that diversity and inclusion are not stand alone initiatives but are woven into all of the work & play of the Sierra Club - campaigns, programs, capcity building and recreation. This is just the beginning of a long journey for the Sierra Club and yes we will make mistakes, but the journey has started and "we aim to transform ourselves and build a healthy, welcoming and sustainable community that celebrates people from all walks of life." -Nellis Kennedy-Howard, Director of the Department of Equity, Inclusion and Justice
