Update: After seven years as Chair of the Great Falls Group (GFG), Norbert Pink has stepped down from the Chair role. Susan Bonney has volunteered to serve as GFG Chair through 2021. If you need to get in touch with Susan Bonney, or have any inquiries for the Great Falls Group please direct them to sbonney001@aol.com. Interested in pursuing a volunteer role with the GFG? Norbert says “I was reluctant to take over the Chair position when it was offered to me, but it has been a decision I have not regretted. If you are thinking about volunteering in any capacity, I would strongly suggest that you explore the many options you have at GFG. I have enjoyed being in the GFG leadership, and I know the new leadership will continue with the progress GFG has made in the past. I have really enjoyed my Sierra Club activities, making new friends, learning new skills, and getting exposed to new ideas.” Norbert joined the Sierra Club 38 years ago with the goal to protect the environment, and that continues to be his primary focus. His work with other Sierra Club members has made GFG the largest and most active Group of the Virginia Chapter. He met and recruited many new leaders and involved volunteers in educational activities and advocacy programs. Among his many specific achievements, Norbert increased tabling activities in the community, including at the DC Green Festival, and developed the group newsletter. He expanded the audience for the GFG weekly listserve on environmental events from 50 to 750, raising GFG’s visibility among political leaders and other environmental groups. He also served on the Sierra Club National Membership Engagement Committee. We honor Norbert for his service and will continue to work with him.
