We recently talked with Mala Persaud, the owner of Trace – The Zero Waste Store. Mala opened Trace, Fairfax County’s only refill/zero waste store, in September 2021. Trace is located in the heart of Vienna, at 140 Church St NW. They carry more than 100 bulk food items, 50+ spices, refills for dish and laundry soap, shampoo and personal care items, and so much more. Trace strives for closed-loop supplies, and aims to reduce plastic as far up the chain as possible. Trace is an independently-owned small business.
We know the statistics. At this point, plastic pollution is everyone’s problem. Refill stores are one way to cut many forms of plastic from your everyday life.
From Ivy: Dear readers : Many of you know that although I write independently of any organization, I also volunteer for the Sierra Club and serve on its legislative committee. Today, the Sierra Club’s Virginia Chapter urgently needs funds to support its legislative and political work towards a clean energy transition. So for the first time I’m passing the hat and asking you to make a donation to our “Ten Wild Weekends” fundraising campaign. And if you’re free on June 12, come join the Solar Walk in Richmond that I’ll be co-leading.

Manassas Battlefield Named Most Endangered Historic Place
On May 10, Preservation Virginia recognized Manassas National Battlefield Park as one of Virginia's Most Endangered Historic Places due to the threat of data center development. It's a bittersweet acknowledgment that supports the former superintendent Brendon Beis's submitted comments that the PW Gateway is the greatest threat that the park has seen in three decades.
SC Virginia Chapter Is in Search of Two New Chairs!
Are you looking for a way to contribute to the Sierra Club's Virginia Chapter but aren’t sure what to do? Our Virginia Chapter is looking for two new leaders: theMembership Chair and the Fundraising Chair.
The Chapter Membership Chair works with the membership chairs of the individual groups to share ideas and plan strategies for recruiting new members. The Fundraising Chair works with staff and other volunteers to help plan and coordinate fundraising campaigns and events.
These are two very important positions in the leadership of our chapter that we would like to fill as soon as possible. If you might be interested in volunteering as Membership or Fundraising Chair, please contact either Ralph Grove (ralph.grove@gmail.com) or Kate West (kate.west@sierraclub.org). These positions are open to all Sierra Club members.
