Sierra Club endorses Elaine Luria for Virginia’s 2nd District
Grassroots group praises Luria’s credentials in race for U.S. House
RICHMOND, Virginia– The Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Elaine Luria to represent Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District today.
Luria has spent her life serving her country and Virginia. This extends towards ensuring the 2nd district, which includes most of the coastal region of Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore, is protected from the worst impacts of climate change.
“Luria will advocate with honesty and integrity for the people of the 2nd district,” Marjorie Leach-Parker, Chair of the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter and Political Chair of the Sierra Club Chesapeake Bay Group, said. “As a Navy veteran, she knows how important it is to address climate change and sea-level rise off Virginia's coast and will bring that conviction to congress.”
Luria would bring fresh, pro-environment leadership to her district and the House of Representatives. She is ardently opposed to offshore drilling, understanding the full impact this devastating practice could have on the region. She joins the military and the the tourism and recreation industries in the Hampton Roads region in opposition.
“Luria has put the issues facing Virginia’s environment front and center in her campaign,” Kate Addleson, Sierra Club Virginia Chapter Director, said. “We are confident that she will continue finding smart answers to the tough questions facing coastal Virginia when serving in the House of Representatives.”
