Sierra Club endorses Leslie Cockburn for Virginia’s 5th District
Grassroots group praises Cockburn’s credentials in race for U.S. House

RICHMOND, Virginia – The Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Leslie Cockburn to represent Virginia’s 5th Congressional District today.

Her vocal opposition to the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines demonstrates the strong environmental ideals she will bring to the House of Representatives while representing the 5th district.

“Cockburn’s long career investigating and exposing political corruption will be an invaluable asset to her district and the House of Representatives,” Corrina Beall, Legislative & Political Director for the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter, said. “Her considerable ability to seek what is just and true will make her a strong ally to the environment in the U.S. House.”

Leslie Cockburn has pledged support for a strong anti-polluter Environmental Protection Agency and measures that will strengthen family farms in Virginia and nationwide.

“Cockburn’s deep knowledge of environmental issues shows how seriously she takes the attacks this administration has inflicted on Virginia’s air and water,” Kate Addleson, Sierra Club Virginia Chapter Director, said. “We are confident that she will work to protect Virginia’s families’ health and work to build a clean energy economy that works for the 5th district and the commonwealth as a whole.”

In addition to its endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend volunteer capacity to Cockburn’s campaign.
