Nature’s Burial at the Katy Prairie

Flowers

What is new at the Katy Prairie?

The Coastal Prairie Conservancy will provide natural burials, conserving the prairie as a memorial to the departed. The process for formal approvals has begun, to establish a place for giving back to nature at the end of life.

What is Green Natural Burial?

Green burial uses no fossil fuels and avoids toxic chemicals. Bodies are returned naturally to the earth, to be covered with prairie grasses and flowers.

Will there be gravestones or markers?

Each internment site will have a specific GPS location, verified by an in-ground survey pin. Native grasses and flowers will be planted on the site. Detailed records and electronic and paper maps, plus interactive memorial pages online will assist in a walk to the grave site.
