Online Houston Monthly Meeting April 11: Important Land Conservation in Our Growing Region

On April 11, our speaker will be Jill Boullion, Executive Director of the Bayou Land Conservancy. Since the mid-1990's, the Bayou Land Conservancy (BLC) has been leading the effort to preserve land along streams for flood mitigation, clean water, and wildlife.

Bay Area Zoom Meeting April 17: About Texas Snakes

On April 17, the speaker will be Clint Pustejovsky of Texas Snakes & More. At this meeting Clint will be discussing the snakes of Texas and those found in the Houston region.

Earth Day at Discovery Green, Saturday April 20

Green Mountain Energy Earth Day in partnership with Citizens' Environmental Coalition (CEC), is Earth Day at Discovery Green.
This year the theme for the Earth Day event at Discovery Green is all about art. This is a community centered, family friendly event open to the public and free to all.

Big Slough Wilderness Area, A River Wild Creation

Big Slough Wilderness Area (BSWA) is our smallest wilderness area, 3,639 acres.

It’s found in Davy Crockett National Forest (DCNF) and is the place to go if you like bottomland hardwood forests.

As youngsters, we are told to be afraid of the “big bad wolf” but in reality, wolves don’t see us as prey and attacks on humans are very rare.

Although you won’t find wolves in Texas, it’s interesting to know that they were once a necessary and important part of the state’s ecosystem.

The Wind Blows and the Sierra Club Goes

On March 9, 2024, six hardy Sierra Clubbers braved chilly 20 mph winds and with 35 other volunteers spent two hours giving back in a service outing on the Coastal Prairie Conservancy’s Indian Grass Preserve in the Katy Prairie.

San Marcos River Cleanup

On Saturday March 2, some 200 volunteers turned out to clean up trash along the San Marcos River from Rio Vista Dam in San Marcos all of the way down to Palmetto State Park – that’s around 60 river miles!
