Electric School Bus Adoption:
Electric buses are particularly well suited for school bus use since the driving range is more limited and they are not in continuous use all day. There is also the all-important clean air and health benefit, in that children are not exposed to the harmful emissions of diesel-powered buses. Over time, electric buses should be more economical to operate due to fewer maintenance requirements. Many states are starting to set goals for converting their school bus fleets to electric and creating funding programs to assist local school districts. The U.S. EPA has also launched a $5 billion Clean School Bus program that will offer competitive grants to local school districts through a lottery process.
