We recognize that these are troubling times with both the COVID pandemic and justified unrest in the streets due to police brutality - including homicide -- against black and brown people. While we are sending out this newsletter as we have many local and timely issues coming up in the Houston area, we want to recognize that this is also the time for the Sierra Club to lift up these justified voices of protest, and highlight efforts to fight racism in all its forms. We recognize that we are asking our members and supporters to engage at a time when you are struggling with COVID-19, and there are protests and unrest. It is okay to step back from “normal” Sierra Club activities and take time to support your family and loved ones. It is also a good time to engage with other organizations that are fighting for racial justice. (From Cyrus Reed, Interim Director, Lone Star Chapter) |
