June 2019 Meeting Program: Economics and Our Climate

The program for the June 19th meeting of the Bay Area Sierra Club consists of two videos. Nate Hagan’s Earth vs. the Amoeba is an eye opener because of such insights as this:  contemporary economic theory leaves energy out of its equations, a fatal flaw that leads to the notion that infinite growth on a finite planet is possible.

Nate teaches an interdisciplinary overview of anthropology, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, energy, economics, population, ecology, systems thinking, and environmental science at the U of MN.

The second video from Scientists Warning TV debuted at the United Nations Framework on Climate Change COP24 in Katowice, Poland last year.  About this video, our scientific advisor Steve Allen said, “I had never seen a climate scientist at a COP integrate human ideas on money/wealth into the climate situation.”

We’ll have a discussion afterwards. It might be as lively as last month’s discussion on The Green New Deal.
