Bay Area meetings are on 3rd Wednesday of the month, and start at 6:30pm for social hour; speaker and discussion from 7-8:30 pm.

February 2019 Meeting Program:

At our Bay Area Sierra Club’s monthly meeting on Wednesday February 20, Amanda Daly, the Houston Zoo’s Supervisor of Natural Encounters,  will speak on the Prairie Pollinator Pathways program. First, she will cover pollinator information. 

Some insects such as bees and butterflies as well as some mammals, reptiles, and birds are all pollinators. 

The largest pollinator, a mammal, the Black and White Ruffled Lemur from Madagascar, measuring up to four feet from tip of nose to tip of tail, pollinates the Travelers Tree.  In Africa, Spiny Mice pollinate the sugarbush plant, and  Bush Babies pollinate the Baobab tree.

Reptiles, including certain geckos and skinks, are pollinators. The Blue-Tailed gecko pollinates the Trochetia flower, the national flower of Mauritius.  In New Zealand, birds, bees, and more than 50 species of gecko pollinate the Christmas Tree.
