Wednesday, August 15
Bay Area Community Center in Clear Lake Park
5002 NASA Parkway, 77586

Bay Area meetings are on 3rd Wednesday of the month, and start at 6:30pm for social hour; speaker and discussion from 7-8:30 pm.

August Meeting Program:

The Bay Area Sierra Club will screen A Plastic Ocean, a feature length documentary.  Our own Steve Allen reviewed eight documentaries on plastics before recommending this one.

“A PLASTIC OCEAN begins when journalist Craig Leeson, searching for the elusive blue whale, discovers plastic waste in what should be pristine ocean. In this adventure documentary, Craig teams up with free diver Tanya Streeter and an international team of scientists and researchers, and they travel to twenty locations around the world over the next four years to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncover alarming truths about plastic pollution, and reveal working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.”

The film trailer can be seen online at https://plasticoceans.org/watch-trailer/

Links to several papers on the scientific aspects are available from the organization that made the film at  https://plasticoceans.org/plastic-pollution-research-papers/

Directions: Driving east on NASA Parkway, go past the stop light immediately beyond the Hilton at Space Center Blvd. At the next stop light, turn left away from the lake into the park. It's the building with the blue roof.

Updates for August 15 will be posted at our Meetup site:
