The Houston Sierra Club gets its message out in many ways. One is the medium of radio. Long-time friend, Pacific Radio Station KPFT, has a number of programs which spread the Sierra Club's message. Perhaps the most interesting is a HD2 radio show called, "Mini-Geology". This show is hosted by Daniel Minisini, a geologist from Italy, who loves, Ta-Da!, "Geology" or as it is called academically, "Earth Sciences"!!! Daniel wants to bring geology not just to professionals but to the public. Daniel is also associated with the Rice University Earth Sciences Department.
In February 2018, Daniel hosted the Houston Sierra Club and discussed storm surge, coastal shorelines, and subsidence. It was a fun and great way to talk about how to deal with hurricanes and not decimate ecosystems in Galveston Bay. In April, the Houston Sierra Club discussed with Daniel "Earth Day" and "The Great Glenbrook Golf Course Giveaway" that the City of Houston has participated in with the Houston Botanic Gardens in the Sims Bayou Floodplain. If you want to listen to the April show go to: https://youtu.be/f3pp1tAl1Fs and for the Glenbrook Golf Course portion: https://youtu.be/f3pp1tAl1Fs?t=39m21s.
If you want to tune into Mini-Geology you can do so every Tuesday, 5-6 pm, on KPFT. You can join online via your phone or computer at http://kpft.org/listen/ (click on HD3 STREAM). You can also call live at 713-526-5738. You can give feedback in several ways including: minigeology@gmail.com, on Twitter at @minigeology, and on Facebook at: Facebook/minigeology. The Houston Sierra Club suggests that Mini-Geology be a part of your electronic listening and learning experience.
