Off Reseda Dr. & Diana Ln. in Clear Lake
This free Grand Opening event celebrates the creation of Exploration Green's Section 1 and the major benefits the project has for people of the Bay Area: flood control, conservation and recreation. Attendees will learn and see how storm water detention works to counter massive rain events like that from Hurricane Harvey, as well as serve as public open space.
Exploration Green's 200 acres is a legally-protected nature area, and visitors will see how the land is being returned to a more natural state with thousands of native and naturalized trees, water plants and grasses. As an easily accessible public green space, Exploration Green enables people of all ages to walk, run, cycle and contemplate the outdoors. It also provides habitat for wildlife.
A sample of planned activities include loop trail guided tours, ceremonial Ribbon Cutting, plant sale by the Native Plant Society of Texas - Clear Lake chapter and a variety of Kid Zone activities with many geared toward pollinators. The Sierra Club plans to have a table as well.
This is a community centered, family-friendly event open to the public and free for all to attend. For further information on Exploration Green, including aerial views of the site, visit https://www.explorationgreen.org/ and https://www.facebook.com/ExplorationGreen/
